Acoustics for hotels
In a hotel, all possible noise transmission paths must be taken into account. Not only in the common areas, but also in the rooms: it is very important for the rest and comfort of the guests not to hear the noise from the room next door.
Whether to spend a night, a week or simply to hold a business meeting, the acoustic comfort of a hotel is decisive for users. So much so that noise is the aspect that generates the most complaints among hotel guests.
For this reason, the International Acoustic Comfort Institute, based in Spain, has created the “Acoustic Comfort Seal”. This guarantees a rest without noise to the users of the establishments that have won this distinction.
In order to know and improve the sound quality of a hotel, a study of the acoustic conditioning must be carried out in the rooms that are likely to generate noise, such as the discotheque, the restaurant and even the rooms. After that, it is time to propose solutions for ceilings, walls, windows and doors. All this aimed at reducing the noise levels emitted.
An effective option to acoustically condition a hotel is the acoustic panels that Ideatec offers. In addition to great acoustic performance, they have an elegant design that adapts to any room.
How to achieve good acoustics in a hotel?
There are several factors that determine whether a hotel has good acoustics or not. Bearing in mind that most of the hotel industry in Spain is over twenty years old, it is important to take them into account to ensure the comfort of guests:- Acoustic pressure intensity. This level tells us how loud the sound is inside the room itself. Continuous exposure to high sound pressure levels can lead to serious health problems. Keep in mind that the maximum level of exposure is 85 decibels and in concert halls, it should not exceed 96.
- Reverberation time. In the common areas of the hotel, it is very important that there is no echo or reverberation in order to clearly hear the staff and any conversations that take place . Technically, reverberation is the time it takes for the sound pressure level to drop 60 decibels below its initial level. In practice, it is the annoying murmur that occurs in places like the reception or the restaurant when many people speak at the same time. Acoustic comfort supposes the elimination of reverberation or the reduction of its time. The acoustic absorption provided by the panels contributes to this.
- Speech intelligibility. Closely related to reverberation time, it measures the quality with which words are heard and understood in a room. It is essential in hotels where work meetings are held.
- Acoustic conditioning of the rooms. This is the ability of a room to prevent sound from being transmitted to the outside, be it the corridor or the adjoining room. Prevents guests from hearing the annoying sound of footsteps, falling objects or conversations.
